Seph Mortensen
Therapist Intern
Seph (he/they) approaches therapy as a relational and experiential process. They believe healing unfolds through being met as one is, developing awareness of emotional experience in the present moment, and reclaiming our relationship with body, Earth, and spirit.
Seph is pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling at Naropa University. Their work is trauma-informed, and their approach is influenced by Gestalt Therapy, Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Expressive Arts, EMDR, and Buddhist Psychology. Seph works with children, adolescents and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, faith transitions, and spiritual or existential questions.
In addition to individual therapy, Seph offers couples therapy and has received training in the Gottman Method. Their work is also informed by Intimacy From The Inside Out, which is an Internal Family Systems approach to couples therapy. This approach helps partners create greater shared meaning, better understand each other's inner world, and develop healthier ways of navigating conflict.
When working with children, Seph’s approach draws from Synergetic Play Therapy, which emphasizes co-regulation, helping children recognize and process emotions, and accessing the healing potential of play and imagination.
As a mixed-race practitioner with single-sided deafness, Seph brings lived experience of navigating identity, difference, and accessibility. This informs their commitment to offering care that is affirming, inclusive, and attentive to each client’s unique context.
Seph works as part of a therapeutic team with Bella, their therapy dog in training and co-therapist.
Outside of the therapy room, Seph is a mindfulness meditation teacher, Taiji-chuan player, yogi, and musician. They find joy in creative expression, being of service to others, and time spent in the mountains with their dogs.
