Sam Shimada
CSW
Sam values person-centered care, authentic connection, and a collaborative approach to healing and growth. With specialized training in EMDR and hypnosis, Sam supports individuals navigating chronic illness, chronic pain, physical and cognitive disabilities, cancer, trauma, grief, and life transitions.
Her style is compassionate, grounded, and individualized. Therapy is approached as a partnership—focused on exploring emotions, identifying needs, setting meaningful goals, and developing practical tools that support real and sustainable change.
Sam works from a strengths-based perspective, recognizing that resilience, insight, and wisdom already exist within each person—even during times when they feel hard to access. Through evidence-based techniques and tailored support, she helps clients process trauma as it shows up in the body and mind, including medical trauma, long-term health challenges, grief, and fear of the unknown.
Sam earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Utah and holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy and Psychology, along with a minor in Nutrition. She integrates these areas of education into her clinical work, bringing a holistic, whole-person approach to supporting clients. By drawing from multiple disciplines, Sam addresses the interconnected needs of mind, body, and lifestyle in meaningful and practical ways.
Abi Nash, LCMHC is Sam’s clinical supervisor.
