Rebecca Backman

LCMHC, Therapist

Rebecca is a counselor dedicated to supporting adults and couples through transformative change and lasting healing. She believes that many of the challenges people face are rooted in complex relationship dynamics (with oneself and others), and patterns that develop when difficulties are navigated without effective tools. Additionally, she incorporates discussion and acknowledgement of the reality of oppressive systems on individual and community well-being. Together, Rebecca and her clients explore these complexities and foster meaningful growth.

Rebecca’s approach is grounded in humanistic principles, enriched by feminist and existential perspectives. She utilizes culturally-responsive practices and tailors evidence-based interventions to each client’s needs, drawing on training in multiple areas including DBT, CBT, EMDR, and the Gottman Method. Her experience includes family and relationship conflict, parenting challenges, maternal mental health, grief and loss, substance use, and issues of self-esteem and identity.

Rebecca is currently completing her Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Viterbo University. She is licensed in Utah and Wisconsin, with Minnesota licensure forthcoming. Her research focuses on stress, particularly political stress and the cultivation of best practices for navigating this stress

Outside of the therapy room, Rebecca teaches and enjoys spending time outdoors (in all seasons), with her family and friends, creating art, reading, traveling, and attending concerts.
