Emily Brinkerhoff

CSW, Therapist

Emily grew up in northern Utah and has recently lived in a rural New Mexico community, where she built her career as an early childhood educator and earned her Master’s in Social Work. Her background in early childhood education deeply informs her clinical work and fuels her passion for supporting children and their families.

Emily practices from a trauma-informed, play-based, and person-centered perspective. She believes therapy should be a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and respected as the experts in their own lives.  Emily is deeply committed to listening with openness and care, honoring cultural identity and lived experience, and partnering with clients as they discover meaningful ways to navigate challenges and live more authentically. For children, she uses child-centered play therapy as a natural and meaningful language—creating opportunities for them to explore their inner world, express emotions, and make sense of their experiences in developmentally appropriate ways. Emily views the therapeutic relationship as a powerful and restorative space that supports healing, confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of self. She values caregiver involvement and collaboration as essential to strengthening attachment and supporting long-term growth within the family system.

In her personal time, Emily enjoys reading and walking her dogs. On weekends, she and her family can usually be found exploring the Wasatch Front while kayaking, hiking, and camping with friends and family.

Rebecca Cohen, LCSW is Emily’s clinical supervisor.
